상황 : 라라가 피터를 되게 예쁜 데이트 장소에 데리고 가자 피터가 여기 어떻게 알았어?? 함.

A : How did you know about this?

B : I have my ways.

• I have my ways : 다 방법이 있지

 

2. 

상황 : 라라네 친척들이 설날에 모였는데 라라네 자매는 한복 입고, 라라의 사촌은 한복을 입지 않음. 라라의 친척이 사촌에게 ‘너만 한복 안 입었잖아 feel left out 하지 않냐’는 식으로 묻자 퉁명스럽게 아 속상해 죽겠네요~ 라고 답함.

A : Don’t you feel left out you didn’t wear Hanbok?

B : Yes, Mom. Beyond devastated.

• Beyond devastated : 속상해 죽겠어요 (여기선 반어법)

 

3.

상황 : 피터가 밸뷰 봉사활동 가기 싫어해서 라라와 피터는 서로 다른 봉사활동에 지원하게 됨. 같이 못 가는 대신 피터가 우리 수업 끝나고 커피 마시자! 이걸로 만회할게 라는 식으로 얘기함.

A : You should go. I’m gonna sign up for Belbiew.

B : Let me make it up to you. 만회할게.

• Make up : be reconciled after a quarrel. 여기선 만회할게 로 해석됨.

 

4.

상황 : 밸뷰의 할머니가 라라에게 봉사활동 하는 장소를 안내해주고 있다가 뜨개질 클럽을 발견함. 혼자 하는 활동인데 왜 클럽을 하지~ 하고 지나쳐서 도로시라는 봉사활동 담당자에게 라라를 소개시켜줌. 도로시에게는 라라 잘 케어해줘! 하고, 라라에게는 잘해봐! 하고 떠난다.

A : Why you would form a club to do an activity you can do alone is beyond me.

A : So, I want you to apply the same care to her as you do to your excellent Bloody Mary mix.

A : Knock’em dead, honey

• Be beyond someone : to be too difficult for someone to understand or deal with.
  ex. The system was unusually complicated and completely beyond the new trainees.
• Knock’em dead : used to tell someone to perform or play as well as possible.잘해보렴. 화이팅하렴. 정도의 느낌.

 

5.

상황 : 발렌타인 데이에 노래 이벤트를 받고 있는 다른 커플을 보고 있는 라라에게 친구가 ‘준비해 라라. 작년에 피터가 젠(작년 여친)에게 매시간마다 노래를 보냈어’ 라고 함. 수업시간, 다른 아카펠라 그룹이 들어오자 선생님이 ‘얼른 끝내렴’하고 수업 멈춰줌.

A : Get ready, Lara Jean. Last year, Peter sent one to Gen every period.

B : All right. Let’s get this over with.

• Every period : 매시간??
• To get it over with. : To do or finish, especially said of something unpleasant.
  Ex. He didn't want to go to the doctor for his shots, but he decided it would be better just to get it over with.

 

6.

상황 : 발렌타이데이에 선물 엄청나게 받는 피터 모습 보고 라라가 속상해하자 친구가 위로함.

A : Don’t lose sleep over the Kavinsky fan club. Okay, you’re the one that dethroned Gen without even trying. … Well, heavy is the head that wears the crown.

• Lose sleep over : to worry about (something) so much that one cannot sleep —usually used in negative statements
  ex. I'm disappointed about their decision, but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

상황 : 라라 친구가 라라한테 아 아카펠라 떄문에 귀에서 피나à 피터도 너한테 아카펠라 보냈니? à 아니 더 좋은 거 줬지! 하고 목걸이 자랑 à 오 뭘 좀 아는데~

A : I get ear bleeds from a cappella. Did Kavinsky sic them on you?

B : Ah, no, he got me something better.

A : Nice! Boy’s got game.

• Sic sth on someone : to order an animal, esp. a dog, to attack someone
• Got game : Got skills in general or good in playing sport
  1. When someone says "That guy's got game", it can mean he has skill, talent, or ability.
  2. When someone says "It is game" or "i am game", it could mean he is ready; he is up for it; he is willing to do it.
  3. when someone says " he got game", it could mean it is he could play basketball.
